The Civic TN Voter Engagement and Partnership Manager is primarily responsible for supporting the highest-capacity civic engagement organizations in Tennessee as well as developing and executing a coordinated plan that maximizes the priorities, resources, and effectiveness of all partners. The Civic TN Voter Engagement and Partnership Manager will ensure short-term programs and elections adhere to the shared long-term vision for civic engagement change in Tennessee.

 

The Civic TN Voter Engagement and Partnership Manager will work with existing Tennessee-based organizations and coalitions to identify shared goals and create non-duplicative work plans. Likewise, the Voter Engagement and Partnership Manager will assess the readiness of emerging nonprofit organizations to join the coalition’s work, will mentor those organizations, and help them integrate their programs within the coordinated statewide plans. The Voter Engagement and Partnership Manager reports to the Civic TN Executive Director.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work with Civic TN partner organizations to design statewide voter education and outreach plans, based on long-term priorities developed by in-state partner organizations, Civic TN members, and other stakeholders. Evaluate partner program outcomes and monitor progress toward goals. Report progress to the organizations and Civic TN Executive Director and board of directors.
  • Help to create, oversee, and track Civic TN multi-county voter registration and election plans.
  • Assess the capacity of Civic TN partner organizations across Tennessee.
  • Create plans to develop additional capacity with partner organizations and create plans to develop new potential partners.
  • Develop a plan to partner with allied voter registrars to help improve institutional voter registration in target counties. 
  • Plan and facilitate regular meetings of partner organizations to create, negotiate, and share plans, progress towards state goals, as well as to identify problems and new opportunities; adjust plans accordingly. Facilitate a collaborative and productive state coalition environment.
  • Work with Civic TN Executive Director to identify funding opportunities and programs. 
  • Assist local organizations in identifying resources, developing, and implementing programs that align with the state plan.
  • Provide, or provide for, technical assistance to increase capacity and impact in grassroots organizing, education, and mobilization efforts.
  • Work with local groups to facilitate execution of jointly agreed upon state plans and identify areas that may need additional assistance. Provide technical assistance or refer for assistance as appropriate.
  • Create state documents and reports as appropriate.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  •  Minimum of 3 to 5 years of the campaign or nonprofit management experience, or 3 to 5 years of experience in political or non-profit advocacy, plus knowledge of and a strong commitment to progressive causes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity and record of success working with communities of color, women, low-income people, LGBTQIA individuals, and/or other historically underrepresented communities. 
  • Understanding and competency of the Voter Action Network (VAN).
  • Applicants must have demonstrated ability to negotiate, build consensus, and strategically disagree. Must be respected by stakeholders and be trusted to lead.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment as well as independently. Excellent listening, interpersonal, communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts while maintaining important and effective relationships.
  • Applicants must be a self-starter; be willing to work, some weekends during peak times, and to travel as needed.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite. Excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Other data organization and presentation tools are a plus.  
  • Demonstrated ability in managing and leading coalitions with multi-issue agendas.
  • Work well with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Was Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of projects simultaneously.  
  • Candidates with field program management, staff management, basic data and targeting understanding, and an understanding of the legislative process preferred. Candidates with knowledge or background in Tennessee politics and organizations are a plus.

Salary Range and Benefits 

  • Must be based in Tennessee, although we work remotely. We will not consider applicants not based in Tennessee or willing to relocate
  • Start date: as soon as possible
  • Travel: some in-state travel may be required throughout the year
  • Salary: Salary range is $60,000 to $75,000

  • Time Off: Full-time employees earn 20 days of vacation leave each year. Paid vacation accrues at the rate of 13.34 hours per month (20 days/4 weeks per year). Full-time employees will also receive two (2) “floating” days of personal leave each calendar year and receive up to twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. Paid sick leave accrues at the rate of one day per month (12 days per year) and does not roll over. Civic TN designates and observes eight holidays per year and grants eligible employees time off with pay, in addition to closing the office the last week of December.
